Mole National Park Safari & Larabanga Mosque — 2 Day Tour

Mole National Park (pronounced "Moh-lay") is Ghana's first, largest and most prestigious protected area — a nature lover's treasure trove in the heart of the Savannah. Over two days, you'll trade the city for open bush, tracking elephants, antelope, baboons and warthogs on game drives, and letting the calls of hundreds of bird species set the soundtrack to the trip. Your first day brings a flight north to Tamale and a scenic drive into the park, arriving in time to check in and set out on an afternoon safari. An experienced guide leads the way, pointing out the antelope, baboons and elephants that call the reserve home, and sharing insight into how local communities have lived alongside this wildlife for generations. As the sun sets, settle in for dinner and an overnight stay at Mole Motel, perched above the park's own watering hole. Day two starts early with a guided walking safari and birdwatching at dawn — the best time to see the park's wildlife up close and on foot. After breakfast, the journey continues to Larabanga, home to the Larabanga Ancient Mosque — the oldest mosque in Ghana and one of the oldest in West Africa, still standing (and still in use) with its striking Sudanese mud-and-stick architecture. From there, it's the road back to Accra, with two days of stories and a few hundred photos of elephants to show for it.
